The date that appears on a status of R350 grant is not a payment date

Beneficiaries of the R350 SRD grant are hereby notified by the South African Social Security Agency in Mpumalanga that the date displayed on the status of the grant is not the date on which the grant was paid out but rather the date on which the grant was captured in the system. Once the grant has been recorded in the system, the recipient can receive the SMS at any time.

There will be no payment on this date. Before going to withdraw the grant at businesses or banks, recipients must wait for the payment to arrive by SMS. Many complaints have been received, so this warning and awareness is made to help recipients avoid wasting money and time on unproductive trips.

The Agency is requesting that all recipients double-check their contact information to verify it is up-to-date.

About SASSA

The South African Social Security Organization (SASSA) was established in April 2005 as a central government agency in charge of dispersing social payments on behalf of the Department of Social Development. The Agency answers to the Department of Social Development, but the DSD has no operational control over it.

It was created to transfer responsibility for social security from South Africa’s provinces to the central government (DSD). SASSA is a public entity in terms of Schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act, and its current CEO is Busisiwe Memela – Khambula

The number of South Africans receiving social aid has increased from 3.8 million in April 2001 to 11 million in March 2006 and 17 million in 2017. .

From May 2020 through April 2021, millions of South Africans benefited from the short-term Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant.

The Social Relief of Distress Grant The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is administered in terms of section 32 of the Social Assistance Act, 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is implemented with the concurrence of the Minister of Finance. The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.
