Pay by Phone is Vodacom’s Merchant payments solution launched In November 2016 to digitize payments in the Tanzania retail Ecosystem and enable merchants and retailers collect payments seamlessly while helping customers to avoid the risks and burdens of carrying cash. In March 2017 Vodacom enhanced the service by launching a new M–Pesa App which amongst other benefits, supports QR-code payments which simplifies the payment experience further by eliminating the need to type in till numbers at retail touch points. QR codes is new in mobile money platforms in Tanzania, geared to enable simplicity and sophistication of M-Pesa transactions.
HOW TO PAY MERCHANTS with M-Pesa Lipa Number : VODACOM CUSTOMERS: Using USSD
- 1. Dial *150*00#
- 2. Select Pay by phone
- 3. Enter Lipa number
- 4. Enter amount in Tshs
- 5. Enter M-Pesa pin
- 6. You will receive an SMS to confirm the transaction.
Using M-Pesa APP
- 1. Launch M-Pesa app and tap on the QR icon top right
- 2. Scan the QR code that is on the table talker/sticker
- 3. Enter amount followed by pin to complete transaction

If your merchant till will be found to perform a different type of transaction that are not merchant payments related, Vodacom will put charges in the merchant till to reflect the nature of the transactions.
